ON BANK Holiday Monday, on August 29, a warm welcome is waiting for visitors to visit the special Grade I-listed country church of St Silin’s, in Llansilin.

A spokesman for the church said they are looking forward to welcoming people for the day.

“It is noted for its association with Owain Glyndwr, whose home was at nearby Sycharth,” they added.

“It is also closely connected with the Welsh poet Huw Morus who in the 15th century was much respected for his hymns and poetry.

“Inside the illuminated barrel ceiling, dating back many centuries is breathtaking and the large stained glass window behind the altar is full of colour.

“The spacious surrounding churchyard is a haven of peace and quiet. The giant yew trees date back many centuries. The earliest headstones in the area fronting the road have stories to tell of village occupations.

“The observant might even be able to find an engraved inscription which refers to ‘February 31st’.”

Also taking place with the open day is the return of a much-loved spectacle.

The spokesman added: “On the same day the whole village will be celebrating a return to normality with the Village Show.

“The popular Sheep Dog Trials will be taking place all day and the village hall will be open in the afternoon for viewing the results of the various cookery and horticulture competitions.”
