Chirk football club has received a partial aid grant to build a new stand and expand its seating capacity. 

Chirk AAA football club has received partial grant aid from Welsh Government Improvements (FAW).

The funding will go towards a 160-seater grandstand which will boost the club's seating capacity to 250.

The expansion will allow the team to maintain its Tier two status in Welsh Football.

In a statement the club said: "We are obviously delighted with the grant and thank FAW for their assistance.

"We are also delighted to announce that we have received a donation from Kronospan to sponsor the new stand which solidifies our partnership with the local company.

"We thank Kronospan for their continued support of our club."

Kronospan, a wood panel manufacturer in Chirk, is also the clubs' website sponsor. 

The work is set to begin imminently and will be completed by local contractors including Titch Richard Roberts and Darren Williams.

The stand will be positioned centrally behind the goal at Kronospan end which has been formally agreed by the General Committee of Chirk AAA.

The club hopes the grandstand will be completed by the end of the year.

The announcement was met with support from fans via a facebook post on the Chirk AAA Supporters page. 

One commenter said: "Brilliant News and confirmation of the fantastic team behind the scenes working hard to put the club in the forefront of Welsh Football....Well done".

Another added: "Great news. And local businesses benefitting too"
