WELCOME to Bygones as we venture back into the past to share some snippets of life in Oswestry and the borders.

We begin with Oswestry Christmas Market in 1939 with a local happy with her two ducks though the sign in the background shows tougher times were ahead.

Next we venture to Llanrhaeadr where a burst pipe near Lake Vyrnwy caused problems in 1954.

Gobowen Hospital nurses are pictured fundraising in 1948 while two shorthand typists take time out from night school class in Llanfyllin in 1951.
