Wanting to meet up with my daughter but needing somewhere central between Wrexham and Oswestry, we decided to go to the Castle Bistro in Chirk.

I have been there a few times with friends but for my daughter and my partner it was their first time.

Castle Bistro was established in 2016 in Chirk and its website says the restaurant has a "cozy and romantic atmosphere for you to enjoy in all weathers and at all times of the day".

It aims to bring different tastes and cuisines to Chirk, getting the most from seasonal fruits and vegetables.

On this occasion we wanted a light lunch and all three of us opted for paninis

They each cost £7.90 and all came with a portion of fries and a salad garnish. The portion size was large.

I opted for the smoked salmon with creme fraiche and spinach panini, while the other two chose the bacon and brie, and the sweet Thai chilli chicken with mozzarella.

All three of us were pleased with our choices, although I think the staff favoured my daughter more than us, as she seemed to have had quite a few more chips!

The smoked salmon was delicious, plenty of it packed in with a good balance of creme fraiche, and I am told the bacon was salty enough to compliment the brie.

The sweet Thai chilli chicken was described as suitably tangy, and all three of us devoured our chips.

Drinks were a lime and soda (£2); diet coke (£2.50), latte (£2.50) and a pint of shandy (£3.90).

Off the main menu there is plenty of choice to suit all palates and tastes from a wide variety of salads to seafood options; pasta dishes and risottos; belly pork, poached chicken, sirloin steak and a choice of curries.

The choice is endless, and with a comprehensive starters selection and dessert options, I doubt anyone would not be able to find something that tickled their taste buds.

There are also breakfast and Sunday menus.

As the sun was actually shining, we were able to sit in the back in a lovely little courtyard area I had not spotted before, and it is easy to imagine on a summer evening this would be a great place to meet family and friends and enjoy some good food.
