BROADCASTING legend and successful author Simon Mayo is set to return to Oswestry in August for a question and answer session.

Mayo, formerly a mainstay of Radio 1, Radio 2 and Five Live, is now the drive time presenter for Greatest Hits Radio but will be coming to Booka Bookshop in Church Street on Tuesday, August 23 at 7.30pm.

He will be there to discuss 'Tick Tock', his latest thriller and a follow up to 'Knife Edge', plus his back catalogue including his popular 'Itch' trilogy for children.

A spokesman for Booka said they were looking forward to welcoming the DJ – who now presents his own film show with Mark Kermode – back to the town, his second in the last five years.

They said: "Join bestselling author and popular broadcaster Simon Mayo as he talks about his stunning new thriller Tick Tock.

"Simon knows how to write a splendidly twisty thriller and is fast becoming a forced to be reckoned with in the thriller world.

"We're delighted to welcome him back to Oswestry to celebrate the publication of 'Tick Tock'."

'Tick Tock' is described as telling the story of a different kind of pandemic through the eyes of three people at the heart of the storm.

A spokesman added: "It starts quietly enough. A tick-tick-ticking you can hear in your ear. Tinnitus, you think. It will pass. But it doesn't. It gets worse – and then you pass it on.

"Before you know it, it spreads. Elsewhere across the globe, it emerges: small outbreaks at first, but then suddenly it's a plague - and only days later it is already killing people.

"In an increasingly affected north London school, teacher Kit Chaplin is struggling to understand what he is witnessing. Even Lilly Slater, his partner and an eminent vaccinologist, can't work out what's happening.

"As it spreads, little by little, they are inexorably drawn into the mystery behind the illness. And what they discover will change the world as they know it..."

The event at Booka will be an author 'in-conversation' followed by a Q&A and a book signing.

Tickets are £8 without a book, or £15 with a book.
