Two men have been charged with burglary offences after a north Powys village post office was targeted during a night time raid.

Radoslaw Kupidlowski, 36, and Seweryn Petryw, 27, are accused of allegedly stealing a number of items including cash, cigarettes and lottery scratch cards from Siop Eirianfa in Penybontfawr.

Dyfed-Powys Police received a report of a burglary at about 12.30am on Friday, July 1, followed by another report of an attempted burglary at a timber yard in Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant.

Chief Inspector Jacqui Lovatt said that during the early hours there was then an attempted burglary at Station Yard in Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant. A stolen vehicle was used to ram the gates of a locked compound but the gates were not breached. The business owner disturbed them and the car headed towards north Wales.

Kupidlowski and Petryw were both arrested on July 2 in connection with the offences, and were subsequently charged, and were also charged with stealing a Vauxhall Vivaro van and multiple keys from an industrial estate in Ystradgynlais on May 13.

Kupidlowski and Petryw, both from Wolverhampton, entered no pleas when they appeared at North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Monday, July 4.

Both men, who are facing charges for a total of 11 offences ranging from burglaries, cocaine possession and trespassing, were refused bail by the court and must remain in custody.

They will next appear in court for a plea and pre-trial hearing at Stafford Crown Court on December 30.
