HELEN Morgan MP has called for Boris Johnson to follow '"ministers out of the door" following last night's shock Cabinet resignations.

Rishi Sunak stepped down as Chancellor of the Exchequer just minutes after Sajid David resigned from his position as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care on Tuesday (July 5) evening with further resignations coming through on Wednesday morning.

It follows a series of embarrassing episodes for the Prime Minister, including his apology to address the row over scandal-hit former deputy chief whip Chris Pincher

Now the North Shropshire MP has said Mr Johnson's departure is "overdue".

She said: "Boris Johnson must stand down. He is incompetent, he is a liar and his resignation has been overdue before I was elected back in December."

Ms Morgan revealed her frustrations saying that the Prime Minister has been "laughing in the face of voters" that have been struggling through Covid-19 and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.

She added: "People here in North Shropshire want to know when they'll be able to get a GP appointment or hospital scan, they want to know that an ambulance will arrive before it's too late, they want to not have to choose between filling their car up and putting food on the table.

"And now we have a Health Secretary and Chancellor with no knowledge of the brief."

She thinks that although these stand downs are welcome, "they stink of hypocrisy", as the paid lobbying and Partygate – in which the PM was found to have breached Covid-19 laws – left the Government trying to save Boris Johnson, instead of focusing on the real issues.

Ms Morgan is speaking in Westminster this morning at the ambulance and emergency debate where she will be raising the concerns from the people of North Shropshire.
