The editor of the Border Counties Advertizer, Thom Kennedy, was passing the scene and said traffic was slow.
He added: "It was a crash on the northbound side, traffic is getting past but it is slow and tailed back in both directions.
"There were definitely at least two cars involved but up to five vehicles stopped at the scene.
"I didn't see any ambulances present, but there was a fire engine and a police car and van, and lots of people around it.
"I hope everyone is OK."
