AN arsonist charged with recklessly endangering life is set to be sentenced next month after his latest hearing was delayed yet again.

David Fraser Taylor, of Lion lane, Builth Wells, has admitted causing arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered in Builth on October 3, 2021. The 66-year-old was due to be sentenced at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court today (June 29) but the case was again put back, by two weeks, due to a prosecution addendum – an item of additional material.

The offence relates to a property fire caused by an explosion in the early hours of Sunday, October 3, 2021, in the Lion Lane area of Builth that caused extensive damage to property.

Taylor had initially denied the offence and a trial had been due to start at Merthyr on May 30, but he changed his plea to guilty on May 19. The case has previously been delayed due to the ill health of the defendant, while counsel was unavailable on the previous occasion.

Taylor has been remanded in custody since his initial appearance at Merthyr Magistrates Court on October 15 last year.

He is now due to be sentenced on Friday, July 15.
