AN IT worker has been hailed as the latest 'Health Hero' by a hospital near Oswestry.

Mike Nowell, who works as part of the Digital Services Department, has had his efforts recognised for doing an incredible job in helping and supporting the Pharmacy Team at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Hospital, which recently upgraded their computer system.

He was given the accolade after being nominated by pharmacy technician specialist Wendy Mayne.

Wendy said: "Mike is always there to support us and is happy to help. He is someone who keeps the hospital running and has so much knowledge but is always very humble and works so hard to support the clinical teams."

The award goes to the people that have gone the extra mile to make the hospital better.

Mike said: "Much of our team’s effort is directed into ensuring that systems are available and kept secure without negatively impacting the business - by definition, nobody should notice when we're doing a good job."

The award consisted of a keepsake certificate, special badge and a box of chocolates, donated by the League of Friends, by Stacey Keegan, Chief Executive.

Stacey said: "Our Digital Services Team work hard to ensure our systems are working correctly, and upgrading them when necessary, helping us to deliver safe patient care. "
