POLICE have warned people to be careful when using cash machines after some cards in the town were retained – possibly because of a device shoved in the slot.

Local officers claimed on Twitter that there are reports about cash cards being held in cash machines due to a device being held in the slot.

The post by Oswestry Safer Neighbourhood Team reminded people of the need to stay safe – but did not specify which machines in the town had been targeted.

They added: "Please be aware of report of cash cards being withheld by machines.

"This may be as a result of this small device placed in the slot.

"Always keep a wary eye open for persons looking over your shoulder.

"Keep your PIN secure."
