A POWYS petrol station is set for a major overhaul and refurbishment after plans were approved by Powys County Council.

The petrol station and garage on Heol Y Doll in Machynlleth will be renovated with additional services, a planning application shows.

The application proposes adding a new shop to the station with hot food takeaway services, additional parking, petrol dispensers, underground tanks, car wash, jet wash, EV charging and ancillary services.

The application was first submitted in September 2021, and officially received approval on June 23, 2022.

To gain approval, the application was subjected to a litany of regulations for both the redevelopment process and the additional features.

Organisations such as Natural resources Wales and Welsh water weighed in on the application to ensure that potential land contamination and water drainage systems had been taken into consideration.

Welsh Water specified that no development could take place until a full drainage scheme for the site was submitted and approved by the local planning authority.

The Ward Councillor for Machynlleth Town Council said: “Having viewed the plans and supporting papers as regards planning this application, in my opinion this is great news for the town and further afield.

“The proposed development has my total support.”
