A HISTORY group is set to host a talk on the importance of 'Old Oswestry' and its landscape, including the hillfort, early next month.

The Oswestry & Border History & Archaeology Group will present a talk called “Old Oswestry and its Landscape” by Tim Malim, principal archaeological officer of Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust, entitled.

It will be held on Friday, July 8 in the Methodist Church Hall, in Castle Street at 7.30pm, and will come from Tim’s recent book “Old Oswestry Hillfort and its Landscape: Ancient Past, Uncertain Future” written with fellow archaeologist George Nash.

A spokesman for the group said: "It is intended as an inspiration to help safeguard the hillfort which with its unique design is one of the most outstanding and important in Britain.

"Last year, with permission from Historic England, Tim led a team of local volunteers in the first excavation on the hillfort for 80 years."
