The Clwyd South MP took to facebook ahead of the vote on June 7 to express his support for the current Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The Welsh conservative MP said: "I will be supporting the Prime Minister, democratically elected in the 2019 general election with a majority of 80."

The Prime Minister needed 180 votes or more to keep his position and narrowly survived by 211 to 148.

The vote of no confidence was launched after 15% of MP's submitted letters of no confidence to Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the backbench 1922 Committee.

The vote follows fines issued by the metropolitan police regarding parties at Downing Street during the Covid lockdown restrictions.

Simon Baynes MP said in a facebook post: "He has got the big decisions right on vaccines, supporting people through the Covid crisis, delivering on Brexit which the majority of people supported in the referendum and the 2019 general election, leading international support for Ukraine and delivering the lowest level of unemployment since 1974."

Boris Johnson is set to meet his Cabinet today (Tuesday, June 7) as he seeks to "move on" from the no confidence vote that took place.

Mr Johnson insisted he had secured a "decisive" victory despite 148 of his own MPs voting to oust him, arguing the Government could now "move on" and focus on what "really matters to people".

But while allies of Mr Johnson have insisted his ballot victory should draw a line under the question of his leadership, Labour is moving to apply further pressure on the PM by pushing a Commons vote on standards.
