AN OSWESTRY business is set to again hold events for the forthcoming Independent Bookshop Week (IBW) which celebrates indie bookshops across the UK and Ireland.

IBW begins on Saturday, June 18 and ends a week later, with Booka Bookshop, in Church Street, taking part in a virtual event.

IBW is a celebration of independent bookshops nationwide, and the role ‘indies’ play in their communities.

This will be their first in person event in more two years, as the pandemic forced them to keep celebrations online or a hybrid version.

A spokesman announced: "Independent Bookshop Week will be back in full swing this June.

"The line-up includes literary festivals curated by indies; nation-wide bookshop crawls; special podcast recordings taking place inside indie bookshops; poetry showcases; exclusive releases for indies; one-to-one bookshop clinics for aspiring illustrators; events in partnership with local schools, and much more."

Booka Bookshop will hold a virtual event on Wednesday, June 22 with Naomi and James Jones for the book 'One More Try', with a school class going in the shop to join the online audience.

Marcus Leaver, Welbeck co-founder and author of 'A Little Book About Books', will also visit 60 independent bookshops throughout IBW, with the book available exclusively from independent bookshops until September.

Book will be one of stops for his whirlwind tour, as well as the Poetry Pharmacy in Bishop's Castle.

Other confirmed indies for his visit include Not Just Books Limited (Thetford), The Book Lounge (Carnforth, Cumbria), The Mainstreet Trading Company (St Boswells), The Edinburgh Bookshop, The Book House (Thame), The Aldeburgh Bookshop, The Holt Bookshop (Norfolk) and The Book Case (Lowdham).
