A SUPERMARKET has stepped in to help celebrate the 90th anniversary of a local school.

Stans Superstore has supported Criftins Primary School in Ellesmere with a £500 donation to help them host a music festival for families, friends and the local community to celebrate the school’s 90th year.

Although the school’s anniversary actually fell in 2021, celebrations were put on hold at the time due to the Covid-19 pandemic, until restrictions could be lifted and the event held safely.

Stans Superstore made the donation via Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally charity.

Justin Smart, general manager of Stans Superstore, said: “We are pleased to be able to use our Making a Difference Locally funds to support Criftin’s Primary School.

“We hope the donation will help provide a fun music festival while supporting the new outdoor area for the school and would like to thank our customers for their continued support, through the purchases of own brand products in our stores, as without their support these community donations would not be possible.”

The money will be used to fund prizes for a “grand raffle” at the school’s music festival, with all proceeds raised helping to fund an outdoor space, which pupils have helped to design, that they can perform in and use as a reading area.

Mandy Jones, headteacher at Criftins Primary School said: "As our school celebrates 90 years as a teaching establishment in the local community, we decided that we would do something for all the children across the school and we decided that we would build a reading shelter in the school grounds which would not only benefit current pupils but future pupils as well.

!"Rather than bring in an external source to design the structure, we gave each pupil in class 4 the project of designing a reading shelter. All pupils and staff voted on the designs and Josh Thomas was voted the winner.

"We will work with a local craftsman to build the construction on the school field. The end product will be a unique design, never seen before, and will be enjoyed by current and future pupils to enjoy for many years to come.

"We are so thankful to have received such a generous donation from Stans superstore to start off our fund raising for this unique addition to our school."

Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally charity was established to support local communities, allowing Nisa-affiliated retailers to support local causes that matter to them with charitable donations.

Every time a customer purchases an item from the Co-op or Heritage own brand ranges in-store, a proportion of the cost is added to the store’s charity fund, to be donated to a local good cause.

Stans Superstore also uses MADL collecting tins in-store to further boost the store’s charity fund.
