RESIDENTS of SY11 and some in SY10 around Oswestry and surrounding villages are being urged to take part in a survey that could shape the return of the railway to the town.

The survey is being launched on residents and businesses around the postcodes, asking them to set out their support on record for the return of the railway between Gobowen and Oswestry.

Last month, Cambrian Heritage Railway (CHR), with partners Shropshire Council and Oswestry Business Improvement District (BID) among them, appointed consultants Stantec and AllanRail to present the business case for the line's restoration.

And now they are asking for public support.

A BID spokesman said: "Cambrian Heritage Railways are inviting local businesses and residents to complete the following survey, which includes asking for support for the reopening of the railway between Gobowen and Oswestry.

"The survey has been developed by their appointed consultants – Stantec and AllanRail – to explore the current travel behaviour of local residents, problems encountered when making journeys, and views on options for future transport improvements, including restoring the railway between Oswestry and Gobowen.

"While the survey is open to all, it will be of greatest relevance to those living in the SY11 postcode area, but may also be relevant to residents of the SY10 postcode area.

"The survey should take around 10 minutes to complete and will remain open until Friday, June 24.

"With our kind thanks for your support."
