A Chirk-based independent book seller and her team have launched a Books for Schools initiative.

So far, Usborne Partner Laura Rowlands and her team, have able to donate more than 400 books to schools and a nursery in Wrexham, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Shropshire.

Thanks to donations from several Chirk and Oswestry-based businesses, boxsets of between 30-50 books, plus some extra free titles, were donated to a number of schools just before Easter.

Thanks go to Printing Solutions, Chirk, Glyn Valley Hotel and IT Pro Support for their donations to schools in Wrexham County Borough.

Alongside this, Laura also managed to raise enough money to donate £224 worth of books to Oswestry and Borders Foodbank to be given to families in need of activities to do with their children in February half term.

This was in part thanks to generous donations from Town and Country, Oswestry and Multilay Flooring based in Chirk.

In addition, Laura’s own business - Laura’s Little Siop Lyfrau - also donated a number of Easter books to Oswestry and Borders Foodbank.

She is now busy raising money to provide summer-themed activities for the foodbank to pass on to families they support during the long school holidays.

Having successfully received donations to send free books to schools, Laura is keen to continue donating to more schools, especially within Wrexham, during the summer term and would welcome enquiries from anyone wishing to know more or make a donation towards Books for Schools.

Laura can be contacted by email on tali1981uk@hotmail.co.uk or phone on 07736944719 - please leave a message as Laura is also a part-time teacher and volunteers with several charities, so may not always be able to answer her phone.
