THE new Ellesmere mayor says supporting groups that are fighting the cost of living crisis is one of her top prioritises ahead of the new civic year.
Councillor Anne Wignall stepped up to become mayor after swerving as her predecessor Cllr Paul Goulbourne's deputy throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
After being installed following Ellesmere Town Council's annual meeting, Cllr Wignall set out what she intends to work on throughout the year.
She said: "As the newly-elected mayor of Ellesmere, I want to use my time in office to continue the valuable work of my predecessor, providing activities for young people, improving the appearance of the town and tackling climate change.
"Important new projects in the coming year include supporting groups that provide help to those who are struggling as a result of the cost of living crisis.
"Also, working to reduce speeding in the town, further developing tourism in Ellesmere and increasing the provision of information.
"I will be fundraising to support the local foodbank and youth work as my chosen charities.
"Please contact me by email anne.wignall@ellesmere-tc.gov.uk or through the town clerk if you have any queries and I will do my best to answer them or signpost you to someone who can.
"I am always happy to meet face-to-face by appointment at the Town Hall."
