THE County Times is fully flexing the proverbial flex capacitor this week as we go all the way back to the 1940s.

Life in Montgomeryshire's principal town, Newtown, had been upended by the outbreak of the Second World War the previous year and Geoff Charles, photographer of the Montgomeryshire Express documented the times.

These fascinating pictures show what Newtown was like during the Second World War and while many of those photographed are sadly long gone, their images belong to the ages thanks to the hard work of their local newspaper snapper.
