AN ACTOR with a string of top credits to his name gave staff at an Oswestry cafe a nice surprise this week when he popped in for dinner.

Emmett J. Scanlan, who this week had a cameo in the hugely-successful Derry Girls show, has starred in BBC's hit show Peaky Blinders, Hollyoaks, The Fall plus a small role in Guardians of the Galaxy, among others.

The actor, who is vegan and has a Chester-based vegan doughnut business, had been working at nearby studios before heading to Fat Rabbit, in Bailey Street, for food.

Owner Linda Clark, who has met Emmett before, was delighted to welcome him to the business with a 'big grin'.

"My neighbour Phil owns the Forge Recording Studios and he phoned me to find out when I was open until," she said.

"It's funny because I've met Emmett before as he co-founded a vegan doughnut business in Chester and I was there to have a chat with his wife Claire Cooper, who is also an actor.

"Because Emmett is a vegan, they were looking for somewhere to come and eat after he had finished recording.

"It's great from Phil because it's local businesses supporting each other but helping bring people here.

"Emmett had food, he had a homemade Fat Rabbit bean burger and really enjoyed it.

"It was great to meet him and he was such a nice guy, with a lot of that Irish charm.

"The irony is that my husband and I had just finished the finale of Peaky Blinders, which he was a lot of screen time in and it was very strange to see him and think 'we've just watched him'."
