A nurse at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital has been crowned the April winner of the Health Hero Award for ensuring the smooth delivery of services to patients.
Julie Cole recently joined the Metabolic Bone Team in January after working on Sheldon Ward, the general medicine ward at the Oswestry-based hospital, for over 20 years.
She was nominated by Tracey Roberts, Clinical Nurse Specialist Sister, who said: “I was notified I had been a close contact of someone with Covid, and needed to self-isolate, I then tested positive myself, leaving Julie to run the IV service independently at very short notice.
“Julie stepped up to the mark without any hesitation. She has ensured that no patients had their treatment cancelled and delivered the service smoothly.”
Tracey added: “I am extremely grateful to her for continuing with the service and to such a high standard. I can’t thank her enough for all her hard work.”
Julie said: “I was extremely shocked to win the health hero award as I've not long been in this post and wasn't expecting it all as I was just doing my job.
“I would like to thank Sister Tracey for nominating me and for being such a fantastic teacher in my new role.”
She was presented her award, consisting of a keepsake certificate, special badge and box of chocolates donated by the League of Friends, by Stacey Keegan, Interim Chief Executive.
Stacey said: “Covid has meant so many of our staff have had to step up into new roles and responsibilities. Julie is an excellent example of this, and I would like to thank her for her commitment to our services and patients.
“She is a very worthy winner, and I am delighted to announce her as April’s Health Hero.”
