Nicolas Cage plays a fictionalised version of himself in writer-director Tom Gormican’s black comedy, which premiered last month at the 2022 edition of the South by Southwest festival.

Co-written by Gormican and Kevin Etten, this exaggerated incarnation of Nick Cage is a Hollywood actor with the same impressive resume, who is in the throes of relationship meltdowns with his wife Olivia (Sharon Horgan) and 16-year-old daughter Addy (Lily Sheen).

A hotel is his current residence and the outstanding bill of around 600,000 dollars is more than he can afford.

So when agent Richard Fink (Neil Patrick Harris) puts forward an offer of one million dollars to attend the birthday party of billionaire super fan Javi Gutierrez (Pedro Pascal), Nick doesn’t think twice.

Javi supposedly made his fortune by peddling olive oil but CIA agents Vivian (Tiffany Haddish) and Martin (Ike Barinholtz) suspect he is an international weapons dealer.

When they discover Nick is the special guest at Javi’s celebrations in Mallorca, they hatch a plot to pressgang the actor into the service of the CIA to bring down their slippery target.

Demi Moore co-stars as Nick’s previous wife.
