ELDERLY residents at a Llanfyllin care home enjoyed a surprise visit from a group of lambs last week as part of an initiative to reduce anxiety and loneliness for residents.
Llwyn Teg, a home operated by Shaw Health Care on behalf of Powys County Council, hosted the session which allowed residents to get up and close to the animals.
Animal therapy has been found to be very beneficial for elderly people, providing companionship between people and animals which helps reduce anxiety while boosting mood and confidence.
Sessions like these can be highly beneficial for those who are suffering from dementia and already deal with reduced social interaction.
Jane Humphreys, manager at Llwyn Teg, said the activity was extra special for one resident as it helped memories comes flooding back.
She said: “One of our residents in particular was very grateful to meet the lambs.
"She was a farmer’s wife, so seeing the lambs brought back many good memories for her.”
The lambs came from a local farm in Llanfechain.
Mrs Humphreys added: “Residents and staff alike all had smiles on their faces after meeting the lovely lambs.
"Sessions like these are what we all look forward to.”
Llwyn Teg care home is situated in Mill Lane and provides residential care for up to 33 residents.
