St Martins brought the curtain down on a season from hell as they crashed to an 11-1 defeat at the hands of Cheadle Heath Nomads on Saturday.

The long relegated Saints now face a rebuilding programme lower down the English non-league pyramid with the club’s tenure in the North West Counties League Division One South now at an end.

The match also represented their last at Oswestry’s Park Hall Stadium with the club now departing to pastures new.

Kyle Foley was the scourge of the St Martins defence with five goals while George Blackwell bagged a hat-trick.

Further goals from Kieran Alley, Jordan Milne and Danny Byrnes completed the drubbing before Logan Taylor marked his 20th birthday the previous day by netting to bring the biggest cheer of the day.

Interim Manager Liam Braisdell said: “It was expected. Cheadle are a good side and far too strong for us.

“I was delighted we got our goal. I felt they deserved that. A massive thank you to everyone who supported myself and these lads. They’ll bounce back for sure.”

Prior to the match the club invited fans to attend the game to bid farewell to Park Hall where the Saints have been based for the past decade.

However the club has confirmed it will not be using the venue next season but has not yet announced its home for the immediate future.

The club endured one of the most turbulent seasons in its history with four managers appointed during the campaign.

James Etherington began the campaign at the helm before being succeeded by Josh Gough with the ex-Wem Town manager lasting just nine games before departing.

Former Southport manager Darren Wildman became the third manager of the campaign but he also quit last month.

Liam Braisdell stepped up from the reserve team to manage the senior string and ensured the club completed their fixtures - including their mammoth trip to the Isle of Man - in one of his first matches at the helm.
