ONE of Oswestry's most popular events is making a return for 2022 after Covid with new leadership and a renewed vigour for sport in the town.

The Annual Oswestry Community Games will be returning this summer and will take place on Sunday, June 12 in Cae Glas Park from 11am until 3.45pm.

The Games have long been under the stewardship of Clive Knight but will now pass to James Manford, who is being supported directly by Clive, as well as Kelly Clarke and Stuart Manford, while Hazel Davis has stepped down from her key role previously to an advisory capacity.

James said he was looking forward to taking over.

“I was extremely excited to be presented with the opportunity of leading the organising committee for the Oswestry Community Games," he said.

"I can't wait to invite the whole community to come back to the heart of the town in Cae Glas Park for fun, action, music and (organised) chaos.

"The Games has been brought forward from the usual September date in order to make a bid to be a community link to Birmingham’s Commonwealth Games 2022, and we should shortly hear the outcome of our bid.

"The Community Games promises to be yet another successful day in the park, with sport, music and dance from diverse local organisations providing free activities on the day.

"The hope is that participants will try out a new activity and take it up after the Community Games.

"With fair weather and surely we deserve it in mid-June, organisers anticipate around 1,000 people of all ages in the park.

"Many thanks to Oswestry Sports Forum and Oswestry Town Council for already agreeing to sponsor the Community Games while we have a number of other bids in progress."

If your organisation would like to provide “give it a go” activities, they would love to hear from you as they strive to provide a wide range of activities.
