HISTORY could be made on Saturday as TNS host local rivals Guilsfield in the outstanding tie of the quarter-finals of the JD Welsh Cup.

The match has special significance for Guils manager Nathan Leonard who hails from Oswestry while many of the club’s players are also based in Shropshire and the Welsh borders.

Leonard said: “It is a huge game for the club and one everyone is looking forward to it. We’ve never reached the last four in the Welsh Cup so we have the chance to create history.

“We have had three tricky away games in the previous rounds and we have had a great journey in this years competition.”

Leonard accepted his side would go into the tie as massive underdogs despite their own fine campaign in JD Cymru North.

“We’ve just got the small task of overcoming TNS who have won the last eight games, are 21 points clear and scoring for fun,” said Leonard.”

“But honestly I can’t wait and all I can ask of the players is they give everything they can on the day

“If TNS have a really bad day, we get some luck and we play out of our skin you never know.

“Shocks are common in football, all the pressure will be on them to give us a good beating so I just hope the lads can relax and grow into the game and give it a right good go.”

Meanwhile TNS go into the tie as overwhelming favourites having established a 21 point lead at the top of the JD Cymru Premier last week.

However coach Anthony Limbrick remained cautious and insisted the Guils were capable of an upset.

“It is a game we are really looking forward to,” said Limbrick. “Obviously the cup has not taken place for the last few years so it is one we especially want to win.

“We expect a tough game and a big crowd for a local derby.”

Meanwhile Limbrick insisted nobody at Park Hall was looking for the trophy cabinet keys just yet despite having one hand on the league silverware with half the season left to play.

“We look at performances rather than the league table,” said Limbrick. “We are where we are in the table thanks to the fantastic attitide of the players since the start of the season.
