Although levels at the Severn Vyrnwy Confluence are starting to fall falling heavy rain further rain forecast over the coming days is expected to lead to levels rising once again.

It means surrounding roads and farmland is at risk.

Issuing the flood alert, the Environment Agency said: "River levels are currently starting to fall at the Llanymynech river gauge as a result of persistent heavy rainfall. Further rainfall is forecast over the next few days and we expect levels to rise again.

"The risk of flooding of roads and farmland remains. We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads adjacent to the river from the Welsh border at Llawnt to Shrawardine near Shrewsbury. Other locations that may be affected include Llanymynech, Maesbrook and Melverley. Minor roads between Maesbrook, Melverley and Pentre start to flood.

"We expect river levels to remain between 3m and 3.5m for the next few days, with the potential for further rise in levels later in the week. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences and clearing weed screens.

"Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded."

It comes as the UK is set to be hit by two storms over the next few days.
