WREXHAM fans can count another well-known person among their number - ITV weather presenter Ruth Dodsworth.

Fans tweeted their surprise when they spotted her among the away fans at Wrexham's match at Yeovil at the weekend.

One fan tweeted: "Not sure whether it was the cider or the euphoria of seeing a @Wrexham_AFC away win, but I swear I walked out of the ground at Yeovil next to @Ruth_ITV."

But Ruth's Twitter page shows she's been following the Reds for a while, and it's all down to her new husband who she married last year.

Ruth tweeted: "Can’t believe you didn’t say hello! It was me… now married to a hardcore @Wrexham_AFC nut… which means my Saturdays will never be the same again!

"Epic second half! See you at the next one!"

ITV weather presenter Ruth has a 2021 of ups and downs.

In April, her abusive ex-husband Jonathan Wignall was jailed for three years and given a restraining order last week following a nine-year campaign of controlling behaviour, harassment and stalking during their marriage.

Since the case, Ruth has been an advocate of those working to tackle domestic abuse and coercive behaviour.

One of her tweets says: "I’d just like to say, from the bottom of my heart - thank you. I’m overwhelmed by the love and support. I never wanted my story to be public. On reflection I’m glad. Because if just one person can relate..can feel assured that they are not alone.. then it has all been worth it."

After the case, dozens of people thanked Ruth for speaking out to share her story, calling her brave and inspirational.

Ruth doesn't speak about her new husband much on Twitter, other than him being a diehard Wrexham fan.

But last year she told Lorraine Kelly: "We got married this year. We kept it quiet because you never know how people are going to react, but he absolutely saved my life, and my family and children adore him."

They met while filming ITV's Coast & Country, he supported her and their friendship blossomed into love.

Looking ahead to 2022, Ruth tweeted: "Goodbye, and thank you. A year of ups and downs. The lowest lows, and the highest highs. Tears of absolute pain and total joy. Family, friends I never knew I had and a new husband who have all been by my side."
