STRAIGHT off the back of the Prime Minister's apology in the House of Commons on Wednesday, the BBC's popular politics show Question Time will visit Shropshire.

Presenter Fiona Bruce will be joined by a five-person panel when the show is broadcast from Shropshire Council's Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury.

The flagship political debate programme is making a return to Shrewsbury for the first time in almost a decade, after a planned return for March 2020 was delayed by the first Covid-19 lockdown.

Welcoming the programme to Theatre Severn, Cecilia Motley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for communities, culture, leisure and tourism, and transport, said: “We are delighted to welcome Question Time back to the county and to share the fabulous facilities we have at Theatre Severn.

“I hope they enjoy a lively debate and will be inspired to return.”

When will BBC Question Time be broadcast?

The programme will be broadcast on BBC One at 10.35pm on Thursday, January 13, and will later be available on BBC iPlayer.

Who will be on the panel?

  • Simon Hart MP, Secretary of State for Wales, Conservative;
  • Jess Phillips MP, Shadow Minister for Domestic Violence and Safeguarding, Labour;
  • Daisy Cooper MP, Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats and the party’s spokesperson on Health, Wellbeing and Social Care, Liberal Democrat;
  • Danny Sriskandarajah, Chief Executive of Oxfam UK;
  • Isabel Oakeshott, GB News presenter and commentator.

What has happened with the Prime Minister?

The programme comes just a day after Boris Johnson was forced to apologise for attending a party in Downing Street.

The Prime Minister made his first public appearance since the leak on Monday of an email from his principal private secretary, Martin Reynolds, inviting Downing Street staff to the gathering in May 2020 to “make the most of the lovely weather”.

Meanwhile, the new North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan described the situation as "disgraceful".
