TRIBUTES have been paid to a community champion and former Weston Rhyn parish councillor who died this week.

Angela Bright, who was on the parish council as recently as the May 2021 elections, was a staunch supporter of people around Chirk Bank and the three parishes of Gobowen, St Martins and Weston Rhyn.

Tributes from groups who benefitted from her 'tireless' support were posted to social media on the announcement of her passing.

Chirk Bank community group said: "We lost our very own community champion.

"Someone who has tirelessly supported the people of Chirk Bank and Weston Rhyn and organised many events and activities over many years.

"Even if you don't know her you will have benefitted or enjoyed something she has been instrumental in getting off the ground. I am sure that I can't remember them all and am amazed at what she achieved.

"Time for you to rest now Angela Bright, and let us remember you and continue to appreciate what you did for us all."

The Chirk Bank group post brought many supporting comments of Mrs Bright, with many calling the news 'heartbreaking' and praised her commitment to the local cause.

One poster, Corrie Davies, said: "So sad to hear this news, she was such an advocate of everything local and worked tirelessly on behalf of the wider community.

"There was only one Angela, she always spoke frankly and always with the rural community at heart."

A spokesman for the Three Parishes Big Local, which provides community and financial support around the three villages of Gobowen, St Martins and Weston Rhyn, paid tribute to an 'amazing' lady.

They said: "It is with great sadness we share the news, Angela Bright, one of our partners, has passed away.

"She was an amazing lady and has left a real legacy in Weston Rhyn, Chirk Bank and the Three Parishes Big Local (3PBL) partnership.

"Truly committed to serving her community through volunteering, fundraising, bringing people together and championing young people, she has been instrumental in the 3PBL partnership from the start of the project.

"She will be dearly missed and we express our deepest condolences to her family and friends at this sad time."
