GOBOWEN WI opened its new year with a food evening as it began with a ‘Bring and Share’ supper.

Although masks were worn throughout much of the evening, a spokesman for the group said everyone agreed that 'it was a small price to pay in order to meet up and enjoy each other’s company'.

The president, Helen Cattell, welcomed everyone and hoped this year would prove to be an improvement on the last.

She said: "Names were taken and money was collected for the group Afternoon Tea to be held on Tuesday, February 22 at Carriages in Oswestry.

"The resolution slips for National Federation of WI (NFWI) were also handed in.

"I and secretary Sara Jones are to attend a county training day in February.

"County are also holding their Speakers’ Day in March and a number of ladies expressed an interest in attending.

"The February meeting will involve ‘cake tasting’. Four ladies have offered to bake a cake for members to choose their favourite.

"The winner will go forward to the group and county stage of the competition and will possibly be on their way to becoming NFWI’s Cake Baking Champion.

"An invitation has been received from West Felton to their Open evening on March 10.

"Several ladies would like to attend and names will be taken next month."

The speaker at the February meeting will be Barbara Steadman.

As usual the meeting will begin at 7 pm at All Saints’ Church Hall, in Old Chirk Road.
