A FLOOD alert remains in place on rivers near Llanymynech but levels are falling.

The Environment Agency put the Severn Vyrnwy Confluence last week following heavy rainfall and expected several days of flooding on roads and farmland around include Llanymynech, Maesbrook and Melverley.

However, as of Thursday, January 6, the gauge at Cae Howel is 3.4 metres and falling.

A spokesperson for EA said: "Further rain is forecast over the next few days but river levels should continue to recede slowly. We are closely monitoring the situation.

"Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded."

An update is expected on Friday morning.
