AN OSWESTRY Otter ended 2021 on a high at the British Para-Nationals coming away with a clutch of medal.

Akaash Das showed fine early season form, winning a clutch of medals in the under-13 age group.

And busy weekend of long-course racing at the Welsh National Pool in Swansea saw Das take podium places in 400m freestyle (gold), 100m backstroke (gold), 50m freestyle (silver) and 100m freestyle (bronze), against strong competition from across the UK.

Oswestry Otters’ head coach, Nikki Bainbridge said: “Since restarting training after the Covid shutdown, Akaash has focussed on technical development and effective propulsion across all four strokes.

"This success is testament to his hard work, but the medals only tell half the story – he also set personal best times in every swim, which underlies the progression he’s making."

Having recently completed their 2021 Club Championships, the club and it’s swimmers are looking ahead to an exciting New Year, with 32 qualifiers in 263 events at the forthcoming Shropshire County Championships.

Oswestry Otters welcome prospective new members with three free taster sessions.
