A CHARITY trust which provides boat trips for older and vulnerable people has welcomed news that Ellesmere Boat Yard will be hosting a special vessel from next spring.
The Lyneal Trust, which offers adapted boats and houses to people with disabilities and illness for day trips or week-long holidays, says it is looking forward to working with Saturn, the last remaining Shroppie Fly-Boat.
A spokesman for the Trust says the role the boat played in bringing people to Ellesmere last summer can only be built upon for 2022.
They said: "We have just heard from our friends at Ellesmere Yard that, as from March 2022 Ellesmere Yard will become the home of Saturn, the last remaining Shroppie Fly-Boat.
"This summer, Saturn really enhanced the site and having her moored along the field meant that the wharf could remain fully accessible and operational.
"We are delighted that the fantastic team who run the Saturn project would like to be based at Ellesmere Yard and they will arrive next March for a summer of activity."
The Trust has accessible hire boats – the Shropshire Lass and the Shropshire Maid – which head to Llangollen from Lyneal Wharf and will offer a good view of this historic boat in its heritage setting just over an hour's cruise away.
