THE deputy leader of the Labour Party has visited North Shropshire.

Angela Rayner was taken on a tour of the constituency by the party's parliamentary candidate Ben Wood on Tuesday.

The pair and Labour Party supporters visited Whitchurch, including a visit to a local pub.

She said Thursday is "a very important day," adding: "This has been a traditional safe Conservative seat so we need each and every single vote to send a clear message to Boris Johnson that it is not acceptable the way he is taking the public for fools.

"Ben Wood is a local candidate, he will be here for you on Thursday, Friday and into the future, so please lend Ben your vote and vote Labour on Thursday."

She later took to Twitter saying: "So great to see our brilliant North Shropshire candidate [Ben Wood] and lots of our fantastic Labour volunteers in Whitchurch today.

"Labour is fighting for every vote on Thursday so vote for Ben if you can."

Ben added: "Delighted to welcome Angela Rayner to Whitchurch today! Incredibly proud of our local campaign."

Meanwhile, Wednesday saw two members of the shadow cabinet joined Ben in Oswestry.

Preet Gill MP, shadow minister for International Development, and Lucy Powell MP, shadow minster for Culture, Media and Sport joined Ben on Festival Square with supporters.

Ms Powell said: "Lots of support for Ben Wood in Oswestry today – it’s the town he’s from and lots of people know him," while Ms Gill added: "Fantastic to be in #NorthShropshire with [Lucy Powell] campaigning for our brilliant local Labour candidate [Ben Wood] – lots of great support for him."

Don't forget, the Oswestry Advertizer will be running a live blog throughout polling day and the count tomorrow.
