A MOTHER and daughter accused of a number of cruelty to animals charges, including horses, cats, birds and a terrapin, may face a trial in the new year.

Alison Bransby, 61 and of White House Farm, Hollins Lane in Tilstock, appeared at Telford Magistrates Court on Monday, December 13 alongside 30-year-old daughter Kayleigh Bransby, who lives at Green Lane Farm, in Tushingham.

They are facing a minimum of 13 charges for causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, dating back as far as February 23, 2019, but with the majority of offences taking place in 2021.

Neither defendant gave an indication of a plea in their appearances, just speaking to confirm their names, ages and addresses as magistrates listed the charges.

The pair have been charged with the same offences, including four charges of unnecessary suffering to a thoroughbred mare who they allegedly allowed to have dental and hoof problems which led to lameness.

They face one further charge of failing to act in the interests of four dogs who were left with poor dental care and a further charge of failing to act on poor bodily conditions and weight loss for two dogs.

Both defendants are also charged with failing to protect a male Cavalier King Charles spaniel called Teddy, by a failure to provide veterinary care and attention for his ear disease.

There is a further charge of failing to protect a lamb by not providing veterinary care for entropion – a condition with turns the lower eyelid into the eyeball.

Two further charges of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal relate to a black and white cat, where it is alleged they did not treat an ear disease.

The 11th charge faced by the pair relates to the failure to provide a suitable environment for 35 dogs under the Animal Welfare Act of 2009, while another charge relates failing to provide fresh drinking water for eight puppies.

There is also a charge of failing to provide a suitable environment for a terrapin and a Congo African grey parrot.

A further charge of conspiracy of fraud by false representation was dropped against the pair, while the same charge was withdrawn against Jeffrey Chimes and Daniel Clare.

Meanwhile, another defendant, Robert Bransby, failed to attended court and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

There will be a case management hearing for Thursday, February 3 while prosecutors expect a trial to last two to three weeks.
