OSWESTRY'S Church Street is set to undertake another parking consultation in order to trial more disabled parking bays for the town.

The consultation and trial period will run from this weekend until June 6, 2022 with Shropshire Council stating it will also trial changes designed to improve loading and other parking.

A spokesman added the trial period will also aim to improve road safety and quality for life for pedestrians in Church Street.

They said: "The experimental prohibition of waiting and loading restrictions, together with the provision of additional disabled parking and loading bays, will further trial a revised parking layout which is intended to enhance provision for disabled parking in Oswestry town centre.

"It will also provide improved dedicated loading facilities, while managing traffic and indiscriminate parking.

"The above aims to provide improved safety for all road users, as well as an enhanced quality of life and environment for the community, and will be applied on an experimental basis for up to 18 months.

"One-way street restrictions and a 20mph speed limit are also proposed for this area, and are covered by separate traffic regulation orders."

In the order, there will be no waiting or loading at any time in Church Street from Smithfield Street to The Cross and along to Boots and The Fox pub.

There will be no waiting at any time in Church Street at its junction with Smithfield Street up to around 150 metres to its junction with Upper Brook Street.

A disabled bay will be put outside Boots in Church Street and a loading close to it.

These orders will be in effect for 18 months.
