Llanymynech Golf Club Ladies Team are 2021 Mid Wales League champions for the first time in the competition’s history.

Following group matches against Llanidloes, Builth Wells and Welshpool, Llanymynech qualified for the semi-finals.

The border club beat Aberdovey at Welshpool in the semi-final to book a place in the final.

On Sunday, November 14, on a lovely sunny day at Borth, they beat Llandrindod Wells to lift the Mid Wales League Trophy for the first time.

Captain Chris Thomas said: “We couldn’t have asked for a better day weather-wise.

“After three well fought matches we managed a 2-1 win and came home with the Mid Wales Ladies League Shield. It was a great team effort.”

Meanwhile back at the club course, a nine hole stableford was contested and won by Sue Ord with 20 points, one clear of Sue Bonsall with 19 points.

The club is also top of the My Golf Ranking men’s table with 9,229 points, well clear of Llandrindod Wells in second place with 8,241 and Ynyslas with 8,115.

Meanwhile the ladies sit in second position with 7,242 points, adrift of leaders St Davids with 7,339 and clear of third placed Builth Wells on 7,214.

The club is also among the top 10 in the individual table with Alwyn Davies on top of the men’s charts with 1,183 points while Rhys Thomas, Gareth Roberts, Callum Hughes and Gareth Eaton-Jones are also in the top 10.

Meanwhile Gwennan Davies is fifth in the women’s table with 900 points.
