THE group responsible for mapping out Oswestry's future wants a community representative to join its ranks as a voice of the people.

Future Oswestry, a partnership between Shropshire Council, Oswestry Town Council and the Oswestry Business Improvement District (BID), are working collectively to bring more to the town as a place to live and work.

A spokesman for the group said it is looking for an 'enthusiastic, committed and people orientated individual' to represent residents in any future decision making.

They said: "As a partnership, we are in the relatively early days of formation.

"However, we have achieved a lot so far including supporting Oswestry through Covid by working together to create a safe and welcoming town centre for people to come to and move around.

"We have secured Historic England High Street Heritage Action Zone funding to support buildings in the town, bring vitality back to heritage buildings and as well an exciting programme of work looking at alley ways and some long-standing difficult buildings.

"This is alongside a cultural consortium programme of activities being developed supported by Historic England.

"We are also in the process of a masterplan for the town, to bring together ideas and opportunities to enhance the future of the town and also look at actions plans to bring forward the ideas in more detail.

"We recognise that ensuring we have the right communication channels in place is essential and being able to formulate debate and discussions through the formation of a community representative group is an important element of this and this role will be critical to shaping up how, as a partnership, we are best equipped to do this.

"We would welcome an enthusiastic, committed and people-orientated individual who can work with the Future Oswestry partnership and the community it represents, to shape the future involvement and collaboration for the enhancement of the town."

The position is voluntary, with an expectation to attend meetings both in person and via Zoom and also represent all parties.
