A COLLISION involving a young child and a police car in Wrexham has been referred to a watchdog, it has been confirmed.

Following the incident involving a two-year-old and a police car on Ffordd Llanerch, Penycae, on Friday, North Wales Police has confirmed the child remains in hospital, but is recovering well.

The force has since referred the incident to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC).

Superintendent Nick Evans said: “Police forces are mandated to refer such incidents to the IOPC to ensure that there is independent review and scrutiny, rather than because there is any suggestion of fault on the part of the driver.

“We continue to keep in touch with the family of the child and wish them all the best for his continued recovery.

“We are also supporting those officers who were travelling in the police vehicle who performed first aid on the child at the scene prior to the arrival of our colleagues from the ambulance service.”
