SHROPSHIRE Council has owned up to a spelling mistake which left village residents near Oswestry baffled last week.
Those making their way past various destinations in Gobowen were shocked to discover that village’s name had been apparently changed by those responsible for new temporary road signs.
Drivers were being warned to drive slowly through 'GABOWEN' at locations around Twmpath Lane, Whittington Road and in the village itself.

A Shropshire Council spokesman confirmed the signs were mistakenly put out by a contractor and said they had been corrected, eventually.
They said: “The signs were put out by our contractor to assist with overnight traffic diversions through Gobowen.
"Unfortunately, there was a spelling error which was quickly brought to our attention.
"We have been assured that these have all now been corrected.”
