SHOCKING pictures have revealed the extent of a crash which closed a stretch of the A5 near Oswestry on Tuesday.

Emergency services were called to a crash involving two vehicles at around 1.40pm between Mile End roundabout and Queens Head.

West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) confirmed that two people were taken to hospital for precautionary checks after the incident, and said that one of the vehicles involved was on fire when ambulance crews arrived.

Pictures of the aftermath of the crash show a BMW in flames while traffic was at a standstill to allow emergency services to resolve the issue.

A picture posted on Twitter by Oswestry’s Safer Neighbourhood Team showed the condition of the car after the fire had been extinguished.

A spokesman for WMAS said on Tuesday: “We were called by the fire service at 1.44pm to reports of a two-vehicle RTC on the A5, Oswestry.

“Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene and arrived to find a car on fire.

“The driver and passenger, two men, had managed to self-extricate from the vehicle prior to the arrival of the emergency services.

“Both sustained injuries and were given treatment on scene before being conveyed to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further precautionary checks.”
