A CLEANLINESS technician at Gobowen’s Orthopaedic Hospital has been announced as the latest winner of the Health Hero Award.

Tracey Edwards – who works along the corridor of Location 30 in the The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH) where she looks after e-Rostering, People Services, and other teams – was nominated for her support to the e-Rostering Team while they have been working from home during the pandemic.

She was nominated by Ann Ashworth who is the head of the team and believes Tracey’s helpfulness deserved recognition.

“When we first went into lockdown back in March 2020, the e-Rostering Team were allocated to work from home and what became quickly clear is there was no one to hand out uniforms for any new staff members on the bank,” Ann said.

“I text Tracey at the time asking if she would mind putting the odd uniform out for staff to collect.

“Now we are in 2021, we are still working from home, and we are the lead employer for the Covid Vaccination Service.

“Tracey has continued to issue uniforms on our behalf and has dedicated evenings and weekends to parcel up and send out these uniforms. She even tells us when we need to order more stock.

“She is a lovely person, always so helpful and deserves to be recognised. We all really appreciate her hard work to help us carry out our work – thank you Tracey."

The monthly award is presented to unsung heroes from across the hospital who are nominated by their colleagues for going the extra mile.

After hearing she was the latest winner of the award, Tracey said: “I am completely speechless – I never expected to be the winner of the Health Hero Award.

“I’ve really enjoyed supporting the team and playing my part in the covid response, it was that little bit extra I could do to help, and I was more than happy.”

She was presented her award, consisting of a keepsake certificate, special badge and box of chocolates donated by the League of Friends, by Stacey Keegan, interim chief executive at RJAH.
