A NORTH Wales-based choir conducted by Oswestry School’s head of music ‘realised a dream’ on Saturday by performing at the Last Night of the Proms.

The John’s Boys Male Chorus, representing Wales, was conducted by Oswestry School’s Aled Phillips as they sang the Welsh classic O'Gymru by the late Rhys Jones

Aled and 20 choir members sang the well-known song in the grounds of Plas Newydd, in Llangollen.

A spokesman for the choir posted on its Facebook page, describing the chance to perform at Last Night of the Proms as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

They posted: “We were truly honoured to have been able to realise a dream to perform at Last Night of the Proms last night – an experience none of us would ever have imagined happening to us – an opportunity of a lifetime.

“No words can describe how much the hundreds of messages we’ve received mean to each and every one of us – we've been truly overwhelmed. Diolch yn fawr iawn i chi i gyd.

“In case you missed our performance, here’s our rendition of the rousing ‘O Gymru’ by the late Rhys Jones. We’re so proud to be Welsh.”
