A RAILWAY carriage has been destroyed after a fire broke out in Llanymynech on Thursday (September 2) evening.

The incident in woodland off Heritage Way and two crews from Oswestry were called out.

A spokesperson for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Call to fire in woodland which was found to be a railway carriage approximately 10 metres by five metres, fully involved in fire and the fire had spread to surrounding hedgerow and trees.

"Fire was extinguished by crews using one hose reel jet."

It is not understood how the railway carriage came to be in the woodland.

Crews remained on the scene until 6.45pm.
