A COMMEMORATION is set to be held in Oswestry next week for the fallen of a battalion based at Park Hall in the 1960s.

The Infantry Junior Leaders Battalion (IJLB) was stationed at Park Hall Camp, outside Oswestry, from late 1960 until the entire Infantry Junior Leaders were moved by the Ministry of Defence to Sir John Moore Barracks in Kent during 1967.

It remained there until its disbandment in 1985.

A spokesman said the tribute will be held at Cae Glas Park on Sunday, September 5.

They said: "We are intending to hold a short Act of Commemoration Service and Wreath laying to our Fallen Comrades at our IJLB Memorial which is located in Cae Glass Park just to the left inside the Memorial Gates.

"The timings are starting at 11am and are expected to be completed by 11.20am.

"There will be no marching but only an assembly around the memorial with a short service of remembrance conducted by the Chaplin of Oswestry School, Felicity Parker.

"Lt Colonel Jon Fleming, OBE a former Commanding Officer, will be in attendance, plus about 30-40 former Junior Leaders and their wives.

"They will form a half-circle around the Memorial on for the purpose of the Remembrance Service and Wreath laying.

"In good military fashion, the Memorial has been cleaned in preparation for the Remembrance Parade."
