AN OSWESTRY beauty queen says she is turning her focus onto winning a national title after coming close in a Facebook vote competition.

April Luong represented Shropshire at the National Miss Facebook and came runner-up with 435 votes at the event on Tuesday.

And while she missed out on the main prize, April – who says she has landed a second film role – was named as having the best smile on the night.

She thanked all those who supported her and admitted she was delighted with how the challenge of her first competition went.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as The UK’s National Ms Shropshire and feel incredible proud to represent my home town Oswestry," she said.

"This was my first time in pageant world.

"I felt completely out of my comfort zone and riddled with self doubt and anxiety but I want to grow and become the best possible version of myself and that only comes through challenges and pushing past those comfort levels.

"The director, Holly Pirrie and all of the pageant team did a fantastic job at organising a successful event. It's clear to see why everyone loves this organisation so much and what it stands for.

"Even though I didn’t get the crown, I was awarded with the UK's National Miss Best Smile Award which was a wonderful surprise.

"I am so happy for Ms Cambridge, she really did a wonderful job and I wish her so much love on her journey.

"As this title has come to an end, I have now stepped into my new title of 'Ms Shropshire Galaxy' and I will be representing Oswestry and Shropshire in the UK Galaxy Pageant taking place on Friday, November 26.

"I am looking for more sponsors to help me on this journey so if any local businesses would like to contribute, please do get in touch.

"You can find me on Instagram @Ms_Shropshire_2021."

April's pageant experience over two days of activities included photoshoots, pilates and confidence workshops and bonding with other contestants, and a solo interview with six judges.

She added: "I have never in my life experienced anything quite like it but I have definitely gained a new skill and feel so much more comfortable working under pressure.

"In the evening we went on stage for our opening number, plus rounds for sportswear, fashion wear and evening wear."
