THE owner of a new independent bakery in Oswestry has enjoyed her first week of trading.

Pauline Jones opened The Oggie Shop, in Leg Street, on Monday and welcomed customers through the door to try out the specialist pies, oggies and cakes they have to offer.

She is no stranger to Oswestry, having previously worked at The Oswestrian pub in Festival Square.

Pauline said it is great to be back in the town again and is pleased to be offering an array of specialist products.

“We’re just finding our feet, but it’s been steady, and we’ve had a good number of people coming in,” she said.

“It’s been good so far and it’s nice to be back in Oswestry.

“It’s quite different – we do all different sorts of pies including haggis and game as well as lamb, beef and vegetarian.

“We used to have a catering franchise at The Oswestrian pub in Festival Square, but the pub closed and reopened as The Tankard.

“Before then I was at the Hampden Arms in Acrefair.”

As well as the homemade pies, oggies and cakes, Pauline will soon be launching a takeaway Sunday dinner menu.

She explained: “We’re hoping to get the roast lunches up-and-running in the next few weeks.

“That’ll be a takeaway option at a price of around £5.95 for lamb, beef or pork.”

She added: “I’ve had a few different pubs and moved around a few different places after doing catering at school.

“About six years ago, I started baking pies and making them for other shops.

“When we saw this place come up, I thought it would be a good idea to have a base to make the pies in town and supply other places.”
