COUNCILLORS in Oswestry will be asked to give suggestions on how the town council can best spend money received from central government.

The town council has received confirmation from government and Shropshire Council that it will be given £30,212 to be delivered through the Business Improvement District (BID).

At the the Development and Planning Committee meeting on Wednesday, to be held at the Guildhall – on the Bailey Head – councillors will be encouraged to put forward ideas on how best to use the money from the Welcome Back Funding.

There are parameters in which the money can be spent, including marketing for celebration events on high streets; marshals, public space maintenance; public toilet convenience maintenance; removal of graffiti and the improvement of green spaces and outdoor seating areas.

The item agenda also states that a meeting with Oswestry's BID team has already been set up and councillors' suggestions will be taken to the meeting.

Councillors will also be asked for feedback for Shropshire Council's work in resolving the issues arisen from temporary measures which will keep Church Street one-way after Covid-19 restrictions were ended.

Some interim proposals include a 20 mph speed limit through to Willow Street and including Cross Street and there will be amendment to parking arrangements, including an 18-metre 24-hour disabled bay, and other changes.

A number of planning items will also be up for discussion at the meeting, including plans for the creation of an 80-bed nursing home in Victoria Road which would include the demolition of the existed building.

Other planning items include the building of a wooden barn on land to the south of Croeswylan Lane as well as associated works and land to keep animals.

The meeting begins at 7pm and press and public will be join over Zoom by joining meeting ID 85731610796.
